Of castles, palaces & romantic roads

This is one itinerary which will take you back to the world of Hansel & Gratel and Snow White and Sleeping beauty. We drive on some of the most picturesque roads in Germany and visit palaces tucked away in valleys and castles built on hills – a treat to the eyes, and to the lens.

Trip Highlights

We spend 3 days in Berlin, Germany’s modern-day Mecca of art, culture and fashion, where the remaining symbols of Cold War like Bradenberg gate co-exist with some of the trendiest bars and night clubs

Drive through the Moselle river valley, stopping by at the absolutely stunning 12th century Burg Eltz, nestled in the high hills about the river, and then continue on to Tier, a UNESCO World Heritage medieval city

Visit the Sanssouci Palace and the Lowenburg (or “Lion’s”) castle, before heading toward the Moselle River valley

Continue through the Black Forest, passing by the city of Freiburg, and checking out the Hohenzollern and Lichtenstein castles, before reaching the Munich area, where we visit the crowning glory of all castles – the Neuschwanstein castle, which apparently was an inspiration to Walt Disney Sleeping Beauty!

Take the Romantic Road from Ausburg up into Wurzburg, and then into Frankfurt, from where we head back home

Alternatively, for those who want more, we continue from Ausburg to the medieval city of Bamberg, and then make our way to Prague in Czech Republic – the gateway to central Europe and its beautiful architecture

From Prague, drive the scenic country roads back into Germany, and visiting Dresden on the way, we head back to Berlin, to complete the loop

When to Travel – As in most of Europe, summer is the best time to travel, given the long days and warm temperatures. However, most of the roads on these itinerary are narrow country roads, and to avoid traffic and congestion, we recommend Spring (late March-mid May) or Fall (September- October) for best travel experience
