Did You Know
  • While known as the world’s largest waterfall Victoria Falls is neither the highest (Angel Falls) nor the widest (Khone Falls). However, it is the largest curtain of falling water on the planet, one and a half times wider than Niagra Falls and twice as high. The Falls are 1,708 metres wide and 108 metres high.  Every minute, over 5 million cubic metres of water pour over Victoria falls.  The noise of the Victoria Falls can be heard as far as 40 kilometers away
  • Victoria Falls is home to a ‘Moonbow’, which is a rainbow at night. As the sun sets on a full moon, Victoria Falls hosts a rare and beautiful sight as the light from the moon bouncing off the spray gives life to a ‘moonbow’, a rainbow during the night. The spectacle lasts from sunset to sunrise and is one of Africa’s most distinctive and striking secrets.
  • In Zimbabwe, men with large stomach are considered wealthy. A large stomach indicates that a person is financially stable and can afford to eat meat each day
  • Brand names do not matter in Zimbabwe. Every tooth paste is called “Colgate” and every soft drink is called “Coke.”
  • Zimbabwe is a multi-currency nation. It abandoned its own currency, the Zimbabwean dollar, for foreign currencies, such as South Africa rand, US dollar, euro, and the Botswana pula. You can buy an item priced in South African rands, pay in euros, and get a change in US dollars
  • Botswana is famously known as being one of the four African countries which meet at the eastern end of the Caprivi Strip in Namibia. This is the only place in the world where four countries meet namely Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Zambia.  The border between Botswana and Zambia spans just 150 meters, making it the shortest border in the world.
  • Water is so valued in Botswana that their currency is called the ‘pula’, which means ‘rain’ or ‘blessing’ in Setswana, the national language
