Did You Know
  • Tanzania has no fewer than 17 national parks. The numerous parks cover an area of more than 42,000 km², which corresponds to more than 38% of the total area of the country. Serengeti National Park is the country’s oldest national park, more than 14,500 km² in size.
  • The name, Serengeti, is derived from the Maasai word siringit, meaning “endless plains.” An accurate description considering the whole ecosystem stretches over 12,000 square miles (30,000 square kilometers)!
  • The Great Wildebeest Migration sees over 1.5 million wildebeest, as well as zebra, and gazelle, make their way through the grasslands of Tanzania and Kenya in search of pasture. Undoubtedly, the most exciting part of the journey is the Mara River crossing, where massive herds make their way to the Masai Mara, braving crocodiles, and danger at every turn.
  • Tanzania has 162 different tribes, each with its own unique character. You can, for example, meet the Hadzabe tribe, who do not grow crops themselves, but live by foraging, and the Masai, whose tradition of spitting is a form of blessing.
